Introduction

In Auto Mode, the keyboard lights will come on whenever you use the keyboard or other keys (configurable), and go off after a configurable period of keyboard inactivity. Installation
NOTE: If you are upgrading from version 1.0.1, you should disable the program on your Treo (by hitting the disable button in the main screen) before you install the new version.
Install KBLightsOff.prc to your Treo 650 using your favorite
installation method. For example, you can use the palmOne Quick
Install utility then HotSync your Treo with your computer.
Note: KB LightsOff must be installed in your Treo
650's RAM for its background functionality to work. If you install it
to an SD card, you will only be able toggle the keyboard lights when
KB LightsOff is running as the current application.
Usage
Start KB LightsOff from the applications screen of your Treo 650. The
following is a description of each of the elements on the main screen.
-
Enable/Disable buttons:
Select Enable to activate KB LightsOff and Disable to deactivate it.
-
Restore after reset: Check this box to automatically reactivate
KB LightsOff after a reset of the Treo 650. You should generally
choose this option but you may consider disabling it if you believe KB
LightsOff has a conflict with another application and you would like
to selectively activate it after a reset.
-
Auto Mode:
-
When Auto Mode is Off, keyboard lights can be
manually turned on or off using one of the toggle keystrokes listed
below. Lights will remain on or off until you manually change their state.
-
Turning Auto Mode On causes keyboard lights to go on when you use any
of the keyboard keys (except the Option key) and go off when keyboard
has been idle for 8 seconds. This allows you to get the benefit of
keyboard lights whenever you use them without having to perform any
specific actions to turn them on or off.
-
Toggle keystrokes: KB LightsOff allows you to customize
three keystrokes for controlling the behavior of keyboard lights while
in any program, without starting KB LightsOff.
The three keystrokes are:
- Double-clicking the Side button
- Holding down a Shift key and clicking the Side button
- Holding down the Option key and clicking the Alt key.
Each of these keystrokes can be set to toggle the keyboard
lights on or off, or to toggle the Auto Mode on or off.
-
Lights currently: These two buttons reflect the current state
of the keyboard lights. They also allow you to manually switch the
lights on or off.
Auto Mode Options
Version 1.2 of KB LightsOff gives you fine control over the behavior of the keyboard lights when Auto Mode is on. This can be achieved by invoking the Auto Mode Preferences screen by going to the Options menu and selecting Auto Mode Prefs. This screen allows you to specify:
- The number of seconds before keyboard lights are automatically turned off
- Whether the application keys, 5-way navigator, Home and/or Menu keys should turn the KB lights on
- Whether touching the screen should turn KB lights on
- Whether to produce an audio tone when Auto Mode is toggled using one of the toggle keystrokes.
